72 Hours in Lake Tahoe

Find your slice of mountain paradise with this three-day summer travel itinerary for a family-friendly weekend by — or on — the lake.

What To Do

Straddling the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe stands out as an exotic sapphire jewel in the midst of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. While well known for its plethora of ski resorts and snowy activities, come summer, the deep blue lake opens up an even greater arrangement of activities the entire family will enjoy. Between hiking, biking, boating, or simply relaxing on the beach near the glittering blue water, there’s an activity for all — and many memories to be made.

Day 1

7:30 a.m. | Start off your vacation with breakfast at Squeeze Inn, located in the heart of historic downtown Truckee. This is a great local spot for a mimosa, stack of pancakes or a delicious omelet.

9:00 a.m. | Play cowboy for the morning during an hour-long intro to horseback ride at Piping Rock Horses in Truckee. Pony rides are available for the little ones, as well.

10:30 a.m. | Hike Picnic Rock in Tahoe Vista, a short, moderate hike with magnificent views of the lake from the top.  Don’t forget your camera — this is a great spot to snap a family photo!

12:00 p.m. | Enjoy a casual lunch at Drunken Monkey Sushi in Truckee, which offers sushi and Japanese cuisine. Try the Singapore street noodles or one of their signature sushi rolls. Sit outside on their outdoor patio and soak up the Tahoe summer sunshine.

1:30 p.m. | Take a half-day white water rafting tour this summer with IRIE Rafting in Truckee, a Member favorite activity. This tour is perfect for families — class II/III rapids provide enough excitement but don’t get too crazy for the younger family members in your group.

5:30 p.m. | Unwind with a 60- or 90-minute in-residence wellness massage with Gem Mountain Massage, another Member favorite. Jamie brings everything to you, including a heated massage table and soothing music to instill a true spa experience.

7:30 p.m. | Relax and indulge in a private chef dinner prepared by Chef Dany Foster. Dinner can be set up outside on the back patio at Trailside so you can marvel at the sunset while being served a delectable gourmet meal at your private vacation home.

9:30 p.m. | Make use of the Trailside hot tub and fire pit. Soak your stresses away or roast s’mores while reveling in the beautiful, starry Tahoe night.

Day 2

8:00 a.m. | Stretch out with an hour-long Vinyasa flow yoga class at the charming Mountainside Yoga studio, within walking distance from the Trailside luxury homes. Take a quick dip afterward at the heated Treehouse pool.

9:30 a.m. | For breakfast, dine-in-residence with homemade omelets, pancakes, and more prepared by a private chef.

11:00 a.m. | Get on the water with a half-day powerboat rental with Action Water Sports in Incline Village, NV. Rent a tube, waterskis, or a wakeboard, and hire a captain so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the adventure. Pack your favorite beverages — the boats are stocked with coolers and ice so you can imbibe while cruising the pristine waters of Lake Tahoe.

3:30 p.m. | Rent bikes at Flume Trail Bikes in Incline Village. They offer bikes for all ages, including E-bikes for adults. Take the brand new Incline Village bike path, the only path available with uninterrupted lake views the entire ride. It’s a big wow factor you can’t miss!

5:30 p.m. | Sip on a craft cocktail at the Lone Eagle Grille Restaurant while basking in the lake view from the lounge.

6:30 p.m. | Treat yourselves to an intimate, date night dinner at Lone Eagle Grille. Enjoy live music by guitarist Luke Wilson, a fan favorite, while sipping from the extensive wine list. Request an outdoor seat or sit by the window for the best lake view. Don’t forget to order a Baked Tahoe for dessert, a true hit with restaurant patrons.

8:30 p.m. | If you’re feeling lucky, head across the street after dinner to the Grand Lodge Casino and test your luck with a little gambling or video poker.
