72 Hours in Mexico City

Why visit this current “it” city? Vibrant culture, celebrity chefs, plus stellar new resorts. And that’s just for starters.

Museums. Boutiques. Top tables. Plus theater, art, and architecture. Each of these Mexico City entices are reason enough to spend a culture-packed weekend south of the border. Yet experience them altogether during a festive 72 hours, and you’ll quickly discover why everyone is talking about their trip to #CDMX. Put simply, Mexico City is the current spot for well-heeled travelers, and its popularity is due to the city’s playful yet sophisticated personality.

Arrange for a city escape with The Travel Desk, and the keys to this popular city are yours for the taking. Whether arriving from the east or west coast of the U.S., this Club favorite is easily accessed, and according to Rafael Grullon, Internova's Global Travel Collection Director of Advisor Success, “you won’t find better hospitality anywhere else in the world.”

Here is a snapshot of what three days in this vibrant hub can look like. “There’s never enough time for Mexico City,” Grullon adds. “With some of the best culinary experiences in the world, you’ll probably want more than three nights here — but it's certainly better than nothing!”

Day 1

As Mexico’s culinary capital, the city's fusion of indigenous and Spanish influences can be found in nearly every colorful street corner. So, you may as well jump right into table hopping, starting with breakfast at Maque Café in Condessa, a Parisian inspired bakery serving Mexican eggs and amazing pastries.

Fueled and ready for city adventure, your next stop is the Museo Frida Kahlo and the famous Casa Azul (Blue House), Kahlo’s private residence. She and Diego Rivera hosted Mexico’s leaders and thinkers, drawn to their home for intellectual gatherings.

Next up, take a leisurely canal boat cruise along the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco, accessed just south of the city. Board a private boat and wind through beautiful rivers and canals that feature floating bars and mariachi bands.

You could spend your entire CDMX vacation restaurant hopping, yet if wanting to cherry pick the ultimate in fine dining, tonight it’s off to Pujol. Celebrity Chef Enrique Olvera’s famous restaurant is one of the most coveted reservations in the city (alas, the world). Why? It beautifully celebrates the heritage of Mexican cuisine, served in one of the most gorgeous dining rooms in CDMX. Opened 24 years ago, Pujol firmly landed Mexico City on the world’s culinary stage.

Day 2

Today your first stop is the Museo Nacional de Antropologia, arguably the most renowned museum in all of Mexico and home to the world's largest collection of ancient Mexican artifacts exhibited in 23-plus rooms. The building’s architecture is as impressive as what you’ll find inside. You could easily spend two days here, but in-the-know culturists say don’t miss the Oaxaca Room, Maya room, and viewing the famous Sun Stone in the Mexica room.

After taking in a morning of mind-blowing art, it’s time to boutique hop around La Condesa, an area with three distinct neighborhoods and known for its green open spaces, art-deco buildings, eclectic art galleries, large-scale city murals, and plenty of fashion finds.

If afternoon exercise is top of mind, walk through the beautiful Chapultepec Park, often referred to as "the lungs of Mexico” — a leafy network home to museums, sculptures, and gardens.

Your day is capped with dinner at Taboo, known for Mediterranean cuisine and a Bohemian-chic vibe.

Day 3

The last morning of your long weekend culminates with an unforgettable adventure. Take a deep historical dive at the ancient Aztec ruins and temple at Teotihuacan, a UNESCO Heritage site located about an hour’s drive from the city center and featuring the Temples of the Sun and Moon. Take it all in via a sunrise hot-air balloon ride, where you’ll soar over the former city built between the 1st and 7th centuries A.D.

When ready for lunch, your go-to is the nearby La Gruta restaurant, which celebrates pre-Hispanic culinary heritage inside a stunning cave.

After witnessing these impressive sites, you’ve earned some downtime. Your afternoon is spent recharging at the iconic Four Seasons Mexico City spa. Opt for the signature Ancestral Treatment, which employs a dark Mexican Chocolate and tequila wrap to help release endorphins.

Come evening, your final epicurean adventure awaits at Blanco Colima. Found in a stunning Porfirian-style house on Colima Street (lined with the best restaurants in the country) in the Roma neighborhood, the restaurant is known for avant-garde cuisine, a hip crowd, artisan cocktails, and festive live music. Salud!

Pre & Post CDMX

Why stop at just Mexico City? Before or after your ultimate long weekend, we recommend adding on these spectacular adventures.

Tequila Region of Jalisco

Two nights spent here — located between Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta — makes for the ideal combination, accessed via a quick flight from Mexico City or directly from the U.S. Take a day trip to the Jose Cuervo farm, which showcases all the hard work that goes into making tequila. Horseback ride through the agave fields and then blend your own tequila for the ultimate souvenir.

San Miguel de Allende

Just a four-hour drive from Mexico City (and most major airlines fly directly from the U.S.), San Miguel del Allende is the cultural little sister to Mexico City. Filled with history and culture, expect an authentic escape and friendly local business owners, gallerists, and artisans. Club Members can stay at the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende. At the heart of the historic city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this colonial-style hotel is perfectly positioned to explore cultural wonders and mesmerizing nature.
