The Gold Standard

Post Olympics, Paris tops the travel podium for European city escapes.

While the Paris Summer Olympics may have come and gone, the City of Light is still very much abuzz. Post-games momentum has left curious nomads clamoring for more Parisian influence and experiences. And given The Club’s many Paris offerings, including sophisticated stays at Hotel Raphael, Majestic Hotel-Spa, The Residences at Peninsula Paris, and Rosewood Hotel de Crillon, there’s no time like the present to say an emphatic 'oui!' to a European escape.

If Under the Tuscan Sun revved our imagination for Italy, New York Times best-selling author Anna Kloots has made a similar impact with her Paris-inspired memoir My Own Magic. The writer and influencer has many Parisian dos and don’ts, and according to her recent Paris Guide, here is where to go and what to do.

Where To Eat

Girafe | Set right in the middle of the Trocadero, and perhaps the best view of the Eiffel Tower in the city. They have a large, beautiful outdoor terrace where nearly every table has a view.

La Fontaine de Mars | If you only eat at one place, make it here, preferably the terrace on a warm day. This is everything you want in Paris in one spot. Incredible food, nice waiters, not too expensive, steps from the Eiffel Tower, and picturesque outdoor sitting.

Bofinger | One of the most gorgeous restaurants in Paris. The ceiling is a giant stained-glass masterpiece, and it oozes old world charm.

Aux Vieux Paris | This restaurant couldn't possibly be more charming. It was constructed from the left-over stones from Notre Dame, which is just steps away. The outside is covered in magical wisteria (when it's in bloom) and the inside looks like a museum.

Le Bon Georges | A tiny, charming, and very delicious bistro on a posh corner in the 9th arr. It also looks like a movie set and is very popular among locals. They have a small, but delicious menu and a lovely outdoor terrace for the summer.

Chez Paul — Family owned for generations, this brasserie will transport you right back in time and is a true local spot. If you’re a fan of Mrs. Maisel, the dinner scene in season 2 was shot inside, and they didn’t change a thing to make it look like a film set.

Where To Shop

L’arrosoir | The most beautiful (and one of the oldest) flower shops in Paris. Buy yourself a bouquet to admire all week, or just pop in to admire the enchanted garden in the middle of the 11eme.

Merci Merci | A concept shop selling cool clothes, beautiful linens, and funky homeware. The Used Book Café inside offers healthy(ish) food and great coffee in a perfect setting for any book lover.

Marin Montagut | When you want something to take home that literally screams (and says) Paris! But you don't want to buy junk in a tourist shop — come to this local artist's atelier for the most beautiful, hand-painted souvenirs that are chic and authentic.

La Jaquette | Beautiful upcycled blazers and coats in designer fabrics, but reasonable prices! Entirely made in France and female owned, this is the perfect Parisian addition to your wardrobe.

Nose | If looking to pick up a signature scent in Paris, Nose is where to do it. They carry many perfumes other places simply don’t, and even have a free experience you can book to discover your new signature scent.

La Samaritaine | This department store is an actual historic landmark, a living piece of Paris history and an architectural wonder. They have the best and most expensive designers, customizable bottles of Champagne from every major house, Europe’s largest beauty floor, and several spots inside to grab a coffee, pastries, some caviar, or a cocktail.

Where To Site See

Musée Jacquemart-André | A former mansion, the home of Édouard André and Nélie Jacquemart which now display the art they collected during their lives. But just as interesting as the art on the walls, are the walls themselves. The museum is gorgeous, with amazing interiors, staircases, and chandleries.

Musée Carnavalet | Recently re-opened after a long restoration. This museum tells the history of Paris and is full of incredible art and artifacts (Marie Antionette’s shoes!) If you only get to one museum, make it this one.

Rue Franc-Bourgeois | Upscale boutiques run up and down this trendy street in the Marais, which ends at the gorgeous, Place des Vosges.

Seine River Cruise | Take a private Seine Cruise, with many different cruise lengths, routes, and select cuisine served onboard.

Chateau Versailles | Most people don't realize there is a lot more to see beyond the castle! Tour the gardens afterward, rent a bike and head to visit Petit Trianon, or row a boat through the canal.

Marché des Enfants Rouge Market | Every day from 8: 30 a.m. This market is stationary and more a mix of restaurants than just vendors and has some of the best food in Paris. Splurge on a meal at Les Enfants du Marche Enfants Rouge (in the back, right corner of the market).
