Livin' La Vida Laguna
If cities were personalities, Laguna Beach is the ultimate expression of California cool.
Think you know Laguna? Think again. With long stretches of beguiling coastlines, protected wildlife habitats, and ample green spaces, nature is on full display daily. Yet complement Laguna’s outdoorsy side with decidedly laid-back luxury and compelling local culture — and this West Coast favorite is seriously hard to uplevel. When finding yourself with a long weekend to spare, here’s your cheat sheet to the playful facets of this coastal chic enclave.
Day 1
With the iconic Montage Laguna Beach as your blissful basecamp, ease into California living with a sunrise walk along Treasure Island Beach, followed by the ultimate way to view Orange County — via helicopter tour. Your Concierge can help arrange for a birds’-eye view of the stunning coast aboard a private charter, which stops on the famous Catalina Island for a champagne toast and gourmet picnic.
Insider Tip: While on your tour, ask your pilot to make a quick detour over the secluded coves of Laguna Beach. You'll get an exclusive aerial view of the famous 'Pirate Tower' at Victoria Beach — a local landmark rarely seen from this angle. Snap some stunning photos before heading to Catalina for that champagne toast.
After returning to the resort, spend a late afternoon at Spa Montage at Laguna Beach. Opt for the Romantic Couples Journey (exfoliation, botanical bath, couples massage), or The Five Senses, which celebrates the healing properties of California nature with a singing bowl, foot bath, customized massage, and an anti-aging facial. Come evening, dine at the Michelin-starred R|O Rebel Omakase, which serves the finest Japanese fare in the OC.
Day 2
If wanting to break a sweat, start the day with a 45-minute Rhythm Ride, an indoor cycling class that draws in-the-know Laguna locals. Next up: Hit the Laguna Beach Saturday Morning Farmers’ Market, where you can score fresh produce and fish for tonight’s in-residence Private Chef dinner.
Member Favorite: At the Farmers' Market, be sure to visit the artisanal olive oil and honey stand, a local favorite. Pick up a bottle of their signature Laguna Citrus Olive Oil to use for your in-residence Private Chef dinner (drizzle on fresh bread!)
What to do in between? Simply relax! With blue-and-yellow tiles and sunny artwork, the Mosaic Pool at Montage Laguna Beach is one of the most photographed pools in all of the United States. Any trip to the property calls for plenty of poolside lounging and lunch (try the fish tacos) at the Mosaic Bar & Grille.
Day 3
If a golf lover, tackle the 18 holes at the prestigious Monarch Beach Club on Dana Point. Alternatively, book a private Sunday Funday boat cruise aboard a 36-foot Aviara yacht. Accommodating up to six guests, the captain-chartered adventure departs from the Balboa Bay Club and navigates the scenic waterways of Newport Beach Harbor. If lucky, you may spy dolphins, seals, or whales along the way.
Recommended Highlight: While cruising Newport Beach Harbor, ask your captain to steer towards 'Little Balboa Island,' a charming, tucked-away spot where you can grab a famous frozen banana from one of the iconic stands. It’s a fun, nostalgic treat for the whole group and the perfect complement to your day on the water.
Afterward, hit the boutiques and art galleries lining downtown Laguna Beach before a casual pier-to-plate dinner at The Deck, one of just a few Laguna eateries located right on the beach.
Lavish Laguna Living
Eight two- and three-bedroom luxury suites at Montage Laguna Beach are perched on a bluff above the Pacific Ocean. Members enjoy full access to the resort’s amenities, including the celebrated Spa Montage. Your budding Picasso will love the Paintbox Petite kid’s program, plus The Loft features an interactive cheese gallery where talented fromageries can turn a tasting plate into a work of art.
